Meet the Chef: Ping Coombes

A true culinary trailblazer, Ping Coombes first captured hearts and palates when she won MasterChef in 2014, dazzling judges with dishes inspired by her rich Malaysian heritage. Her mastery of flavour and technique earned her yet another historic victory in 2022, when she claimed the title of BBC MasterChef Champion of Champions, making her the first-ever double MasterChef Champion.

Born and raised in Ipoh, Malaysia – a town famed for its pomelo fruit, silky chicken noodles, and iconic Ipoh white coffee –  Ping grew up surrounded by vibrant flavours and traditions, learning the art of cooking from her mother’s kitchen.

Today, Ping continues to share her passion through multiple ventures: developing recipes for leading brands and publications, running her food brand Ping At Home with her husband (specialising in authentic Malaysian meals and fiery condiments), hosting her celebrated monthly ‘Makan’ supper club in Bath and teaching at her Masak Club cookery school.

Her journey is a testament to the power of heritage, creativity, and culinary excellence – and now, you have the chance to experience it first-hand.
