Terrific team triumphs in awards season

The Oscars in Hollywood always seem to herald a season of awards during March and we have joined in the celebrations both here at the resort and with notable success of our own elsewhere.

We were once again thrilled to be voted the UK’s Best Hotel at the prestigious Meetings& Incentive Travel Awards at London’s Battersea Evolution. We have won this title so many times – this was the seventh time in the last eight years – that it is easy to get blasé about the achievement, but I am always absolutely delighted that we are so highly regarded within the Meetings Industry.

We face some serious competition in this category and what is most pleasing for me is that this Gold Award is voted for by the industry professionals who are actually our clients for conferences and events. It is always good to know that we are meeting and exceeding their expectations in the events we deliver here.

More awards were presented the next week when we hosted the National Tourism Awards for Wales here at Celtic Manor. It was great to welcome so many colleagues in the Welsh visitor economy to celebrate the very best in our industry – an industry which is so vital to the prosperity of Wales.

There were 11 award categories in all – all with regional winner finalists from the four corners of Wales – and the evening was a fantastic reminder of how many amazing destinations, venues, attractions and tourism professionals we have here. Congratulations go to all the winners on the night.

We also held another special awards evening just last week when we presented our own staff with the “Making A Difference” awards. We stage a lot of gala awards over the course of a year for many blue chip companies so it is wonderful to have the opportunity to put our own team centre stage for once and treat them to a three-course dinner and an awards ceremony every bit as good as the ones we stage for our clients.

They certainly deserve it for the effort that goes in all year round in our 24/7 operation, a commitment that helps us to win awards like Best UK Hotel and to succeed and go from strength to strength as a business.

Helping to judge and then presenting some of the awards, I was once again reminded how many of our people are prepared to go the extra mile and “Make A Difference” to our guest experience and it was brilliant to see how much the recognition meant to not only the winners but also all of the nominees.

Even better was the reaction of their colleagues as each and every name announced brought cheers and real joy to their team-mates in the same department and their friends across the resort. What shone through once again was the amazing team spirit and the real pride people have in working here.

This enthusiasm and dedication is our greatest asset at Celtic Manor and marking the team’s collective achievements both at home and on a UK national scale has been a great way to celebrate the awards season.
