Star studded teams teed up for Celebrity Cup
The first star names have been announced for the 2017 Celebrity Cup, which is taking place this summer on the weekend of 1st - 2nd July.
The teams so far include Rob Brydon and Gethin Jones hoping to hit a hole in one on home turf for the Wales team sponsored by Castell Howell Foods, and boy band legends Keith Duffy and Brian McFadden aiming to score an ace for Ireland.
Rugby brothers Max and Thom Evans will once again be lining up birdies for Scotland and Dragon’s Den entrepreneur Peter Jones and TV funny man Bradley Walsh will be pitching in for the England team sponsored by Imagine Cruising.
The annual event is now in its fifth year and follows on from a hugely successful 2016 Celebrity Cup, which saw 24 celebrity players swinging for glory and national pride on the five-star resort’s famous fairways at the home of the 2010 Ryder Cup.
Thousands of golf fans and celebrity spotters will flock to Celtic Manor in the sunshine to watch the cup in July. As well as top-notch golfing action and on and off-course banter, there will be live music and food and bar outlets in the tented village.
Actor and comedian Rob Brydon returns for Team Wales
Celtic Manor Resort Chief Executive Ian Edwards said: “We are delighted to be hosting another Celebrity Cup this summer and planning is already well under way to make 2017 the best tournament yet. Last year’s event was incredibly successful, with thousands flocking to the resort to catch a glimpse of the celebrities in action whilst enjoying a truly unique golfing event and the facilities at the resort.
“We are delighted to welcome back some of the celebrity golfers who have made this event such a success over the last four years and we are, once again, indebted to these stars for giving so generously of their time to entertain the crowds and raise thousands of pounds for charity. We look forward to adding more names to the team line-ups in the coming weeks.”
Other celebrity golfers competing in the event over the last two years have included Gareth Bale, Denise Van Outen, Anton Du Beke and Ben Shephard.
Tickets for the tournament are now available on the Celtic Manor website. Adult early bird tickets are currently £15 for each day and £25 for a season ticket covering both days (offer expires 14th March). Children under 3 years are free. Visitors can also experience the VIP treatment in Hospitality or at Saturday evening’s glittering Gala Dinner.
Castell Howell Foods will return as the team sponsor for Wales while the England team have a new sponsor in Imagine Cruising. Elemis is the official Spa Partner for the event and Radnor Hills is the water sponsor.
