A New Year and a Special Celebration
Happy New Year and here’s to an exciting new decade ahead!
If the 2020s are anything like as busy as the last 10 years for Celtic Manor then we can look forward to another amazing period of growth and development.
The last decade began with Celtic Manor staging Wales’ first Ryder Cup in 2010 and ended with the opening of the new International Convention Centre Wales in the autumn of 2019. Between those historic bookends, we also managed to:
- transform our family offering with new adventure activities
- build 10 luxury self-catering Hunter Lodges
- host the 2014 NATO Summit
- acquire two hotels and start building a third
- launch the Signature Collection
- win 8 Best UK Hotel golds at the M&IT Awards
These are just some of the highlights from what has been an extraordinary period of achievement for the business.
We already have some exciting projects and plans to look forward to in the coming years, but 2020 also gives us a great excuse to look back as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of perhaps our most memorable occasion – the 2010 Ryder Cup.
While it was amazing to welcome Barrack Obama and more than 60 world leaders for the 2014 NATO Summit, hosting the Ryder Cup is still the event that Celtic Manor is best known for.
It is difficult to believe it is almost 10 years since we hosted an unforgettable Ryder Cup that was described as “the greatest ever” by no less a judge than Phil Weaver, the Chairman of the Professional Golfers’ Association.
After many years of meticulous preparation, it turned into a triumph over adversity as we battled against torrential rain but what an amazing atmosphere there was throughout the four days of extended action – especially the thrilling climax as the match went right down to the wire. Anyone who was there will never forget the roar that greeted Graeme McDowell’s crucial putt on the 16th green and the scenes of utter jubilation when he clinched victory for Europe on the next green.
As visitors to the resort – and particularly golfers on the Twenty Ten Course – will know, we have constant reminders of the Ryder Cup dotted around our hotels and clubhouses, but we will be ramping up those celebrations to mark our #Twenty10th Anniversary during 2020.
A series of special promotions will run throughout the year, starting with a fantastic group golfer available right now, where golfers can gather their own Ryder Cup team of 12 players and the “Captain” goes free!
When the golf season truly kicks in come the spring, look out for an amazing Hole in One Prize on the Twenty Ten Course… on the 10th Hole, where else!
There will also be a Magic Mondays series of monthly golf days with Ryder Cup back tees and pin positions back in play. As well as top prizes, winners from each event will qualify for a grand final marking the October date of the original Magic Monday in 2010.
The autumn anniversary dates will also be marked with special weekend packages to come and join our anniversary celebrations.
Stay, play and cheer away on 25th-27th September as the 2020 Ryder Cup takes place Stateside, giving golfers the perfect opportunity to play our courses during the day before watching the live action on TV into the night thanks to the time difference.
Or follow in the footsteps of Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and many of the world’s greatest golfers by teeing up at Celtic Manor in the first weekend of October, exactly 10 years after all the drama. Create your own three-day tournament by playing all three Celtic Manor courses and you can even bond like the European team by staying as a group in a Hunter Lodge.
We hope you have as much fun in 2020 as we intend to and we look forward to being a part of your celebrations… best wishes for a fantastic year!
