The role of the supervisor is a both important and challenging hotel workplace. The role requires an ongoing commitment from the supervisor to oversee and lead their team effectively in order to complete relevant tasks so that they deliver a consistently high performance. Acting as an intermediary between the team and the manager, the supervisor must resolve issues and problems, make sound decisions and motivate the team while observing and explaining the task at hand. Supervisors require excellent communication skills, an ability to engage and involve others proactively and ensure all achieve their respective goals.

Senior Leadership & Management Practices - Level 6
HR_FoodSafety4_AltContentImage_286x180

5 days

The quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they set for themselves.

How we think shows through in how we act, for attitudes are mirrors of the mind; they reflect thinking. As senior managers we must be able to build credibility if we want those below us to buy into the vision and strategy that the organisation is striving to achieve.

Building credibility and getting the buy in require the skillful art of knowing when to lead, when to manage and when to inspire others to do the same. It is more than just telling because it means steering people to let go of their own fears and moving forwards. It is about combining, innovation, inspiration and passion to engage the right people to align, lead and inspire.

Management & Mentoring - Level 6
HR_FoodSafety4_AltContentImage_286x180

2 days

Developing managers don’t lack the will – they often simply lack the skill of a process designed to help and empower their staff to realise their full potential.

Engaging and motivating staff to achieve better performance - and with a smile on their face - remains the greatest challenge for all developing managers.

Coaching involves creating strong and flexible learning, providing staff with the support they need to develop their skills and improve or increase performance through coaching conversations.

Influencing, Persuading & Negotiation Skills
HR_FoodSafety4_AltContentImage_286x180

Influencing and persuading occurs every time we enter into a communication relationship with someone. Whether you are trying to put your own point of view across to another, trying to negotiate a business transaction, or manage a conflict situation, influencing and persuading is taking place. This course looks at how well we currently influence, persuade or negotiate and what we might need to do to improve our chances of getting the result we are trying to achieve without feeling that our personal values have been compromised in the process.

Networking Skills
HR_FoodSafety4_AltContentImage_286x180

1/2 day

Networking is the process of intentionally meeting people, making contacts, and forming relationships in hopes of gaining access to such business-related benefits as career advice, job leads, business referrals, useful information and ideas, and emotional support. Ideally, networks serve both social and business functions and are mutually beneficial for their members. The relationships formed in networking help people create a larger world for themselves, with a variety of new relationships, opportunities, and resources.

Self-Coaching
HR_FoodSafety4_AltContentImage_286x180

1/2 day

You know something is wrong but can’t figure out what it is. You think you could talk about it with someone but your manager doesn’t have the time and you’re not sure what he/she might say. You know what you have to do to get over this hurdle, but you just don’t know how to do it. These are the thoughts that can go through your mind when you are faced with a situation or issue which can sometimes cloud your judgement or block you from taking positive steps to achieving a goal.

Managing Complaints with Drunk or Aggressive Guests
HR_FoodSafety4_AltContentImage_286x180

1 day

Conflict arises because we tend to get locked into a “you against me” scenario. We need to move away from this and move towards an “Us against the problem” Contrary to what we think and know conflict management isn’t about managing conflict. This course is centred on preventing conflict from arising and reaching resolution before it escalates. It’s all about working to achieve a Win-Win situation for all parties involved and how to effectively communicate with each other.
