The Uruguay Rugby World Cup team were given a rousing reception during their stay at Celtic Manor by a choir representing the Newport Gwent Dragons.
The Cor y Dreigiau choir are competing against singers representing the other rugby regions and North Wales in challenges set by the S4C programme Codi Canu.
They choir certainly won the support of the Uruguayan players who were treated to brilliant renditions of Welsh hymns like Calon Lan and the national anthems of both Wales and Uruguay, who face each other in a World Cup encounter at the Millennium Stadium on Sunday.
It was a special treat for team captain Santiago Vilaseca who was celebrating his birthday on the same evening. He said:
Wow! What wonderful singing. Thank you very much for coming to sing to us and wishing us well for the tournament. We have had a very friendly welcome from everyone we have met in Wales.
Former Dragons and Scarlets rugby player Rhodri Gomer Davies introduced the singers and wished Uruguay well for the tournament... but not too well in their match against Wales!
The choir singing to the Uruguay team at Celtic Manor can be seen on Codi Canu on S4C on Wednesday 23rd September at 7.30pm.
