A host of stars from the worlds of sport and showbiz treated the crowds to a thrilling finish as Team Scotland won the 2016 Celebrity Cup presented by Bulmers in a nail-biting nearest the pin shoot-out.
Captain Rory Lawson fired the final shot of the tournament to 10 feet, just inches inside another brilliant effort from his opposite number Keith Duffy for Ireland after the sides had fought out a gripping tied match in the final.
England edged out Wales in another tense finish to claim third place at the end of a fun weekend packed with autographs, selfies and banter as celebrities including Rob Brydon, Anton Du Beke, Denise Van Outen, Ben Shephard, Brendan O'Carroll and Brian McFadden entertained the galleries.
Playing for Team England, Denise Van Outen took on the boys
as the only female player in the tournament. She said: "I’ve had a fab
weekend flying the flag for female golfers. Admittedly, there were a few air
shots but I hope I’m invited back next year because it’s been an absolute
laugh. The Celtic Manor is such a beautiful setting, what a fantastic weekend."
Brendan O'Carroll, the creator and lead character of hit TV show Mrs Brown's Boys, added: "I get invited to play in lots of celebrity golf events and most of them you can kind of take or leave. But I played in the Celebrity Cup two years ago and it is, without doubt, the best charity golf tournament I have ever played in. The most fun and the best organised, so I could not wait to come back this year."
Thousands of fans enjoyed two days of sporting action and
entertainment at the tournament, now in its fourth year, with live music and
food in the tented village, as well as the opportunity to “Get Into Golf” in an
interactive zone sponsored by Principality Building Society.
Celtic Manor Resort Chief Executive Ian Edwards said:
"This is the fourth year that we have staged the Celebrity Cup and every
year it just seems to keep getting bigger and better.
"Our star players really embrace the spirit of fun that this event is all
about and give the crowds some fantastic entertainment and interaction. With so
many sporting legends involved, there is also still a real sense of keen
"Most importantly, they have helped us raise tens of thousands of pounds
for two fantastic charities - the Caron Keating Foundation and the Keith Duffy
