Restaurant Manager Judges Student Menus

Category: What's New

Terry M restaurant manager Ronan Hunter has been called on to the judging panel for a prestigious national student catering awards.

The inaugural Teflon Diamond Standard Awards provide the first opportunity to shine for students who are seriously thinking of following a catering career by studying it to A-level or equivalent.

More than 100 teams have registered for the Teflon Diamond Standard Awards which require pairs of young students to design and create a healthy and aesthetic meal for a fine dining menu within a budget of £20 for all three courses.

Ronan, who has been the restaurant manager of Celtic Manor’s fine dining restaurant for three years, has already helped judge the menu entries and will be present to award the winners at a special ceremony on Wednesday 27th March.

I’m used to seeing what an accomplished fine dining chef like Tim McDougall can produce at Terry M. So it has been interesting to judge the menus that these aspiring young cooks came up with on a limited budget and using locally sourced and produced ingredients. It’s great to support a competition encouraging the next generation of culinary talent and I was very impressed by the standard of entries.

Teflon products, thousands of pounds in cash and trips to local kitchens of excellence are all up for grabs along with a stunning trophy for winners. Other prizes include dinner at Terry M and Celtic Manor joins sponsors including Tesco and Caterer & Hotelkeeper for the awards which partner the Springboard FutureChef programme.

There will be live streaming of the awards ceremony on Wednesday 27th March from 10.00am - 4.15pm.
