The Celtic Manor Resort has appointed a new Hotel Manager to run the latest acquisition to its collection of hotel properties.

Matthew Barnby will take over as Hotel Manager of the Coldra Court Hotel by Celtic Manor, when the resort takes over the 148-bedroom property currently trading as Hilton Newport, on 31st March 2016.

Mr Barnby (pictured above) will oversee the operational management of the newly renamed hotel, leading the existing team which will remain in place following the transition to Celtic Manor’s ownership.

Mr Barnby has worked at the Celtic Manor Resort for 13 years and been involved in the management of events, golf, food and beverage, conference and banqueting, and most recently as part of the rooms management team.

He played key roles in the resort’s successful hosting of the 2010 Ryder Cup and the 2014 NATO Summit and, through his varied postings, he has acquired the breadth of skills and experience required of a hotel manager. Mr Barnby said:

I am really looking forward to the challenge of managing the Coldra Court Hotel. The hotel has a strong reputation for hosting weddings and business events, as well as welcoming leisure guests, and we want to build on those qualities and improve and invest in both the property and the team. I feel I have learned a great deal about all aspects of hotel management during my time at Celtic Manor and I am looking forward to bringing this knowledge to my management of Coldra Court.

Mr Barnby will report to Celtic Manor Operations Director Matthew Lewis and will have the support of other experienced managers as he takes charge of the new hotel.

Mr Lewis said: “The Coldra Court Hotel by Celtic Manor is an exciting development for us and the additional bedrooms will be very welcome as we keep up with a growing conference and leisure market across the resort.

“Families and leisure guests will benefit from access to all the activities, the golf courses and restaurants at the Celtic Manor Resort as well as the facilities within Coldra Court.”

In addition to its 148 guest bedrooms, Coldra Court will house Springs Health Club with swimming pool, spa bath and fitness room, Seasons Restaurant, and six versatile conference and banqueting rooms.

Coldra Court is the latest addition to the Celtic Manor collection which includes the five-star Resort Hotel, the stately Manor House, the Newbridge on Usk country inn and 10 luxury Hunter Lodges. The acquisition takes Celtic Manor’s total bedroom stock to almost 600.

Good to see 'Coldra' being included in the hotel name. I was one of the babies born there, in 1946, when the Manor House was used as the Lydia Beynon maternity home!
