ICC Wales fast becoming a reality

Category: #CanDoNews, News

The new International Convention Centre Wales (ICC Wales) does not open until 2019 but this exciting project is already gaining a lot of attention and beginning to loom large for all of us here at the Celtic Manor Resort.

Two years may sound like a long way off but we know that time is going to fly by now that construction is gathering pace and news of ICC Wales is reaching an ever increasing audience.

Just how close the Convention Centre is to becoming a reality was hammered home again last week when we had the announcement of the first event being booked to take place there.

The Hospitality & Catering EXPO 2019 has gained that distinction and will be a new two-day conference and exhibition bringing together that industry’s professionals and suppliers from all over the UK.

The show will provide exhibitions stands, masterclasses, product demonstrations and roundtables, as well as an innovative hosted buyer programme, so will offer an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the many versatile facilities of ICC Wales from the outset.

It is great news for the joint venture partnership behind the Convention Centre and is an early indication of how ICC Wales is going to fill a very significant void as the largest facility of its type, not just in Wales but in the whole of the south west of the UK.

It is fantastic news for Wales that we have secured such an important piece of business so far in advance of our opening. Event organisers can be confident in the ability of our experienced team which is leading the charge for business events in Wales and I have absolutely no doubt that many more events will be firmed up in the coming weeks.

We hope to win more business and generate many more leads this week when we attend the Meetings Show at London’s Olympia. The Meetings Show is the premier event for the UK inbound, outbound and domestic meetings industry and this is the first time ICC Wales has formally exhibited its world-class facilities at this or any other show.

Together with partners from Visit Wales and the Celtic Manor Resort, ICC Wales will be vying for interest and business from the 3,000 meeting and event planners who attend the show from all over the world.

As well as exciting them with detailed designs of the exceptional new facilities at ICC Wales, we will be entertaining them with songs from the London Welsh Rugby Club Choir at a special drinks reception on the stand.

Just like the choir, our message needs to be loud and clear, and we need to be pressing it as often as possible at events like the Meetings Show for the next two years – book Wales now for your next event. We will meet many more people in just a few busy days in London than we might otherwise get to see in several months of appointments.

Having taken Wales to London this week, we will be bringing many of the industry’s key players back to Wales next week when we host a “Building Brilliance” event at Celtic Manor to mark our breaking ground on the construction of ICC Wales.

This event will showcase many Welsh products alongside the new Convention Centre and we will give our guests the most revealing look yet at how ICC Wales will take shape and what it will be capable of. It’s another exciting step on the road to making ICC Wales a reality.
