I hope you're all having a terrific start to the new year!

I spent my first week exploring Newport, a local city to me in South East Wales that has famously hosted the recent NATO Summit, and 2010 Ryder Cup.

Both of these events were held at the world famous Celtic Manor Resort, which I visited for an indulgent afternoon cream tea.

Newbridge-on-Usk is a quaint village with rolling hills and a meandering river. The country pub here is owned by the Celtic Manor and sits just to the north of this vast resort (CLICK HERE for location).

The crackling wood fire and cosy leather armchairs made for a very inviting first impression.

A big thank you to the staff who were very warm and friendly. One helpfully suggested where I could take some landscape photos, and the chef invited me into the kitchen to see how they prep the meals. They also explained that they even grow some of their own vegetables on site.

If you'd like to visit for a cream tea, here's a link to their official website: Newbridge on Usk.
