Hollywood actor Dougray Scott sprinkled a little star dust over the first day of the Celebrity Cup when he notched up an incredible hole-in-one on the Twenty Ten Course.
Scott and fellow feature film actor Andrew Howard decided to have an early morning round before official practice for the tournament even began, and the Scotsman started his weekend in style with a hole in one on the seventh hole.
He could not repeat the trick when he teed off in front of hundreds of fans later in the afternoon but thrilled the galleries in a fourball with Howard, Gethin Jones and Philip Glenister.
"It's a shame I didn't save it for the competition proper," said Scott who will compete for Scotland in the round robin event against England, Ireland and Scotland.
"It's my fourth hole in one but probably my best ever - it was a perfectly struck iron."
Jones usxed colourful language to describe how "nervous" he was on the first tee when he played in the inaugural Celebrity Cup last year but was delighted to be back on home turf at Celtic Manor where he is a club member.
"It's such a fabulous weekend, all the celebrities have a whale of a time," said the television presenter who fronts new ITV1 quiz show The 21st Question next month.
s all about the banter and having a good time with the people watching and we're always so well looked after here at Celtic Manor."
The tournament starts in earnest tomorrow (Saturday) morning when the first nine-hole round-robin matches take place.
A full family day out includes a Kids Zone and entertainments in the spectator village and the opportunity to get up close to watch the stars of sport and showbiz perform outside their comfort zones on the golf course.
