2015: A Year in Pictures

Category: Caught On Camera, Events

There was no event quite on the scale of the 2014 NATO Summit but 2015 still proved to be another exciting year for the Celtic Manor Resort. Here's a look back in pictures...

March - Celtic Manor wins Gold for Best Business Tourism at the National Tourism Awards Wales. It was the first of many accolades bestowed upon the resort in 2015 including European Hotelier of the year for Chief Executive Ian Edwards (pictured above right), Best European Hotel at the World Golf Awards, and no fewer than six category wins at the Spa Traveller Awards, including Best UK Hotel Spa and Best UK Spa Manager for Marieke Teagle.

March - Four Celtic Manor chefs formed the nucleus of a six-person South Wales Culinary team which won the prestigious Battle of the Dragon trophy after beating rival teams from North and Mid Wales. Executive head chef Mike Bates captained the team which featured his Celtic Manor colleagues Simon Crockford, Karl Jones-Hughes and Ffion Lewis.

May - No Wales Open for the first time since the turn of the Millennium but top-class golf and some familiar faces returned for the Wales Senior Open on the Roman Road Course. Home hero Ian Woosnam (pictured) almost pulled off his first tournament win at Celtic Manor but England's Paul Wesselingh held firm in a thrilling finish.

Polo

June - Polo at the Manor returned with The Only Way is Essex star Lydia Bright and fellow TV personality Denise Van Outen among the celebrities enjoying a champagne-soaked afternoon on the polo field.

July - Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale did not only inspire Wales to Euro 2016 qualification in the past 12 months, his debut also fired the home nation to a first-ever win in the Celebrity Cup golf tournament at Celtic Manor. Bale was joined in the victorious team by Andrew Howard, skipper Rob Brydon, Gethin Jones, Philip Glenister and Sir Gareth Edwards.

December - We had an early Christmas present on Social Media when we passed the milestone of 50,000 Followers on Twitter.

All in all, quite a year! And these are just some of the highlights.

2016 promises to be equally exciting with another packed calendar of events and we set the ball rolling in the new year with another major restaurant opening - Cen in partnership with MasterChef finalist Larkin Cen.

We have just returned from a lovely two night stay at your wonderful resort. We recommended your New Year's Eve gala ball to our friends, so 6 of us joined you at the Glitter Ball. Our stay was wonderful, your team are of huge credit to the brand and the facilities offered are second to none. Our only request would be for you to get the issues with lifts sorted, yet again a broken lift resulted in lengthy waits and lots of trips up the stairs to the 9th floor. We must make special mention of the food at the gala dinner, for a large scale event the food was exceptional. Everything was beautifully presented and clearly of superb quality. Thank you.

I visited Celtic Manor with 16 of my work colleagues on a 2 day golf comp, the staff were excellent they couldn't do more for you. only bad thing I can say about my experience was that considering we paid a lot of money for the 2 days we were not given complimentary coffee while waiting to play I asked if could have a flask filled with coffee and was told I had to pay for it considering you are 5 star centre this was very naff but other than that first class would come again and play the 2010 course we all had a great time many thanks to the staff and organizers of Celtic manor
